Patrik Jarlestam (b. 1985) is a composer, musician and light designer based in Malmö in the south of Sweden. During his composition studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, he started working with music together with light design with many of his own and his colleague’s pieces.
“Light is a way to present the inner workings and emotional connotations of a piece, and it is also a way to make modern art music available to new audiences.” His light designs have been performed at the Reactor Hall in Stockholm, Sonorous and Tokyo Opera City in Tokyo, Young Nordic Music festival in Sweden, and concerts in Århus and Copenhagen In Denmark among other places.
This year, the music pieces composed have been themed for the Refugees. Patriks concert at the Sonic Festival will musically deal with the trip many people have made from Iraq/Syria to Europe. Also during this year, Patrik started working more with video and since he has a background in also making sound design, these aspects will feature in his music during this year’s Sonic Festival.
